PEER LEADERSHIP: A sure opportunity towards a journey from ordinary to extraordinary

The motto of V.V.N. Degree College is “Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye” - Education leads to Empowerment. The institution aims at nurturing values and career skills bolstering psychological, social and emotional growth of its girl students. To achieve an impactful all-inclusive development of our students, the practice of PEER LEADERSHIP is introduced and several platforms are created to motivate and instil the qualities of self-confidence and self-skilling towards independent professionalism.

Peer leaders are defined as “students who are selected and trained to offer educational services to their peers through intentionally-designed assistance towards attainment of their progressive educational goals”. In this endeavour, student peer leaders are chosen and empowered to exert a positive influence upon their peers-fellow under graduates- through involved proactive academic activities, under the guidance of professional staff and faculty members. The flexibility of the peer leader role provides an even greater potential as a resource to the undergraduate learning environment. The following are sure testimonies of student transformation in this process, from an ordinary into a poised, empowered and transformed extraordinary individual.

Competitive Examination Coaching Classes: Several undergraduate students have been benefitted immensely from the coaching classes conducted by Ms. Gayatri, a final year student (2016-19 batch), who spent two days in a week preparing the peers to complete the course with good scores.

Braille Classes: Scribe Bank student coordinator Ms. Vaibhavi (2017-20 batch) took up the extra effort to learn the Braille script and then, conducted classes on Saturday afternoons for interested visually-challenged peers. The aim was to help the needy and visually-challenged students to prepare notes and stay updated with the curriculum. This set an example to other students who were introduced to the world of the less-privileged and visually-challenged, towards learning their script. Ms. Vaibhavi was also selected as an interpreter for a Quiz programme organised for the Visually-challenged students organised by the Bangalore University... Read More
